What is a bone marrow transplant?

A bone marrow transplant is a life-saving treatment for people afflicted by leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and other life-threatening diseases. Patients undergo chemotherapy to remove their diseased marrow. Once this is complete, the donor’s healthy stem cells are introduced to the patient’s blood stream so it can begin to form new, healthy bone marrow.
